Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A review

Juventus took another step towards the title by defeating a tough Sassuolo team 1-0 on a goal from super Frenchman Paul Pogba. Sassuolo are always tough to beat and the game was very close till the final whistle although Juves’ class came through at the end. In spite of not seemingly being as good as last season Juve notwithstanding a disaster in the last part of season Juve will win the Scudetto for a fourth consecutive year. Sassuolo for their part have had a great season so far, and it looks like they will stay up if they keep playing like that

Roma drew for the 11th time this season in a 0-0 draw against Chievo Verona. Roma again dominated possession although could not put one behind the net. Seems like a season to forget for the Romans with so many expectations this season it seems like the chocked under pressure. Only with a miracle can they catch Juve, as a matter of fact they might even lose their familiar 2nd spot if they don’t start winning. Chievo have improved from last season although not by much only time will tell if they stay away from relegation.

Napoli and Inter Milan played to a 2-2 draw that seemed to satisfy both coaches. Argentinian star Gonzalo Higuain and Marek Hamsik scored for the Partenopei while Argentinians Mauro Icardi and Rodriguo Palacio replied for Inter. A tale of two halves, Napoli dominating the first half while Inter came back strong in the second half. Napoli must keep focusing on every game if they want to challenge for the Champions League. Inter for their part have improved since Roberto Mancini took remains to be seen if they can climb closer to Europe.

Fiorentilaziofiorentinana met their nemesis Lazio of Rome in a 4-0 defeat. Argentinian Lucas Biglia who has been great for Lazio this season, Italian international Antonio Candreva and German Miroslav Klose with 2 scored for the Laziale. After a string of good results domestically and in Europe the Tuscans hit a wall in Rome however they are still a good team and I would not be surprised to see them in 3rd place before season’s end. Against all expectations Lazio has climbed to third spot just a couple of points shy of second place, a fantastic season for the Laziali no matter what happens from now till the end of the campaign

AC Milan continue their sea-saw season in 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona. Frenchman Jeremy Menez who has been a sensation for AC scored while the other goal was an own goal courtesy of Greek Tachsidis Panogiatis. Italian Luca Toni and Argentinian Nico Lopez replied for Verona. AC have had a tough season so far, a lot was expected with the arrival of Pippo Inzaghi however things seem to have gotten worse. Hellas for their part are also inconsistent and if they are not careful they might be relegated.

In other scores

Udinese stumped Torinos’ good form with a 3-2 win

Parma and Atalanta played to a 0-0 draw

Empoli and Genoa played to a 1-1 draw

Sampadoria defeated Cagliari 2-1

Lastly Cesena and Palermo also played to a 0-0 draw

In Europa League news

Napoli defeated Dynamo of Kiev 3-1

Roma and Fiorentina played to a 1-1 draw

Inter Milan went down 3-1 to Wolfsburg

Serie A Review 20-14-15 week 13: Juventus gets final word in derby while Roma tames Inter Milan

Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A Review where the game is played with style

Juventus edged out Torino 2-1 in one the annually two city derbies thanks to an injury time goal scored by non-other than juventusvstorinoageless Andrea Pirlo who by the way completed 89 out of 90 passes during the contest just a phenomenal feat that reminds us of Zinadine Zidane, the other goal for La Grande Signora was scored by Chilean international Arturo Vidal, Bruno Perez replied for Il Toro. Although Juve dominated the contest as a whole and could have easily score at least 1 more goal the result was in doubt till the final whistle. Torino played well and deserved a better fate I believe with a little luck they even might have won it, when we consider the players they lost in the offseason it’s amazing that they can still compete at this level. I still believe Juve is not as strong as last season although they have practically the same players and at times it during the game we did not see the same fighting spirit we we’re accustomed to see, nevertheless they did prevail, it will be interesting to see if Allegri can keep them winning. For their part Torino needs some help up front and in the middle of the pitch, they need to score more if they want to continue to stay in Serie A

Roma kept pace with a brilliant win of 4-2 over Inter Milan, Miralem Pjanic who is one of my favorite players had 2 goals for the Romani with Gervinho and newcomer Jose Holebas getting the other ones. Andrea Ranocchia and Pablo Osvaldo replied for the Neroblue. Roma dominated the exchange as expected especially in midfield, Pjanic was just tremendous controlling the ball with ease and giving the Inter defense fits. I cannot say it enough in my view I Romani practice soccer the way it is meant to be, control, poise, composure and explosive, although Inter tried to compete it was evident that Mancini has his work cut out for him if Inter wants to improve. The Romans must continue their assault on Juventus they have no choice but to win practically every game but if anyone can do it they can.

Napoli salvaged a point on a goal from Duvan Zapata in the very last minute of the game in 1-1 draw against Sampadoria. Sampa’s reply came from Eder. Although the Partenopei dominated possession and chances to score Sampadoria is a tough team to play against especially at home and this year in particular they are playing very well with a stingy defence. It is not as easy this year for Napoli their defence is suspect and consistency is a problem personally I think the manager is not as keen this year with his choice of the starting 11 mind you it could be just a question of having too many good players. I believe they still have a very good team and if they can be more consistent they will definitely be a threat. Sampadoria for their part are having a breakout year and I’m convinced they will continue to surprise.

Fiorentina demolished Cagliari 4-0, Matias Fernandez with 2, Mario Gomez and Colombian Juan Cuadrato got the goals for the Tuscans who seem determined to catch the leaders. The Viola who have in my view an underrated team played a very strong game both offensively and defensively especially if we consider that Cagliari have one of the best offense in the whole tournament, all this without superstar Giuseppe Rossi, it will be interesting indeed to see how far they might go when he gets back in the lineup. Cagliari for their part hit a wall sort of speak, although they showed flashes of brilliance nothing would work on this day, it is the hope of all Sardinians and me that Cagliari continue to play positive soccer in spite of this loss

Ac Milan defeated Udinese 2-0 with French international Jeremy Menez getting both goals. Important 3 points for the Rossoneri and Inzaghi I might add who in spite of the win were often exposed and only luck kept the ball out. A fairly even game in spite of the score and one of the rare occasions where AC is not victim of a comeback, Menez was fabulous and continues to demonstrate his talent in spectacular fashion. I still maintain that AC Milan will not compete for the Scudetto this year in spite of what some fans are hoping, they just don’t have what it takes in my view. Udinese seem to have hit a road block of late and must find a way to get a positive result soon

In Other Scores

Sassuolo continues their good form beating Hellas Verona 2-1

Lazio who is struggling to get a win of late drew Chievo Verona 0-0

Empoli and Atalanta also played to a scoreless draw 0-0

Palermo defeated Parma who are in deep trouble 2-1

Genoa who continue to impress with win of 3-0 over newly promoted Cesena

PS..Juventus won and Roma drew their games in the Champions League, both are well placed to advance

While Inter Milan, Torino, Fiorentina and Naples are also well placed to advance in the respective Europa League

I also want to congratulate some of my favorite players Gianluca Buffon, Paul Pogba and Carlos Teves of Juventus who we’re named on the 15 man lists for each position respectively for the upcoming awards for best best players in Europe. A great honor for La grande Signora who are in my view one of the top teams in Europe both in talent and consistency, they have dominated Italian Calcio for a long time, the only trophy they have not won in for a few years years is the Champion League which they hope they can win this year

There you have it another exciting week in Serie A where the game is played with style..stay tuned

Serie A Review 2014-15 week 12; Juventus and Roma continue to dominate no winner in Milan derby

images (7)

Hello every one welcome the Serie A Review

Juventus defeated Lazio 3-0 on a beautiful evening in Rome, French superstar in the making Paul Pogba got 2 goals while sensational Carlos Tevez who continues to score at high pace got the other one. The expectations we’re high for Lazio who are playing well, playing at home there was no better moment to show what they can do however the Bianconeri we’re determined to not let this one slip away. Playing well from the start Juve never looked back after that initial goal from Pogba, they have so much depth that they can actually field a B team and still be competitive, if they keep playing this way it will be very difficult for Roma and the other pretenders to catch them. Lazio for their part I think have a better idea about their team after this game although they must not lose focus and continue to improve.

Roma kept pace with Juve with a 2-1 win over Atalanta in a game played in Bergamo, Belgian sensation Radja Nanggolan and Adem Ljajic who has been on fire since coming in scored for the Romans while Maximiliano Morales replied for the Bergamasci. Roma dominated possession as expected and their midfield was dominant however Atalanta who always play well at home showed some flashes of brilliance when they had the ball. The Romani have no choice but to keep pressing Juve and hope that they stumble at one point if they want any chance of surpassing them. It’s been a tough start to the season for Atalanta however in my view they do have some quality players and if they get their act together they might save their season.

Napoli stumbled at home in a 3-3 draw against high scoring Cagliari. Swiss international Gockan Inler, Gonzalo Higuain and Dutch Jonathan De Guzman got the goals for the Partenopei while Diego Farias with 2 and Victor Ibarbo replied for the Sardinians.
Napoli have a beautiful looking team fluid and explosive when they have the ball however when they don’t have the ball is more complicated again we saw the lack of anticipation from some of the players. If Napoli have any chance of catching Roma and Juve they have to replace some players on defensively. Cagliari have an exciting team as well with the same kind of problems if they can shore up defensively they could be dangerous.

The much anticipated derby between Inter Milan and AC Milan ended in a 1-1 draw  the match marked the coaching return of Roberto Mancini who won 3 titles with Inter Milan his first time around. Frenchman Jeremy Menez scored for AC while Obi Joel Chukwuma replied for Inter. A fair result reflective of their respective qualities and faults, I don’t think either team has what it takes this year although AC seem more likely to advance their standing. Lots of quality on both teams however not much flow not convincing enough in my view.

Fiorentina got back to winning ways by defeating Hellas Verona 2-1 on goals from Gonzalo Rodriguez and Colombian Juan Quadrato, the usual suspect Nico Lopez replied for the Verona. The Tuscans who seem to play better away from home have one of the best passing teams in Europe although they miss Giuseppe Rossi they are showing that they are a total team in my view with a little help offensively they can be a real threat to the leaders. Verona for their part are having a sea saw season they need immediate help in midfield if they want to improve in my view.

In Other Scores

Torino was surprised at home 1-0 by surging Sassuolo, although playing in a small town Sassuolo is a very old team with great fans, I’m happy to see them win considering their relative meager budget

Empoli surprised Parma 1-0 on a cold night in Parma, the Parmiggiani are in deep trouble they need immediate help or they will be demoted which rarely happens in their case

Genoa and Palermo played to a 1-1 stale mate a fair result although disappointing for the Genovese who are looking up at the moment

Sampadoria continue their impressive start with another positive result in a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Cesena

Udinese and Chievo Verona also played to a 1-1 draw a disappointing result for Udinese I’m sure and a positive one for Chievo who desperately need points to move out of last place

All and all the standings in my view is reflective of the quality of the teams with a few exceptions in my view

Here you have it another exciting week in Serie A where the game is played with style…. stay tuned for more action and results

Serie A Review 2014-15 week 11, Juventus make a statement Roma and Napoli in hot pursuit

Hello everyone welcome to the weekly Serie A review, where the game is played with style

Juventus answered their critics with an astonishing win of 7-0 over Parma. A total domination from the start, the Bianconeri had all their wheels turning at the same time, the Parmiggiani on the other hand where getting clobbered in spite of playing relatively well. Fernando Llorente, Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata had each 2 goals for with one of my favorite players Swiss international Stephan Lichtstenier getting the other one. In my view one of Juve major strengths is depth and again this game was a good display of that. However I don’t think they are as strong as last season some weaknesses are showing although I believe the only teams that can dethrone them are Roma and Napoli in that order. We will see what the gods have in store for us

florenziuid_14898bf7e04.r.560.315Roma kept pace with Juve with a convincing win of 3-0 over Torino. The goals we’re scored by Greek international Torosidis Vassilis, Seydo Keita and Adem Lajijic. The Romans gave a beautiful display of the beautiful game, they are just fabulous to watch with almost 900 passes in total they we’re rarely dispossessed. I believe Bayern Munich to be the only team in Europe to pass the ball better than the Romans, not even Juve can dominate the Romans with possession. Torino for their part played a good game in spite of the score line. The Granada must forget this game and refocus quickly, I think they we’re beaten by a far superior team, and they are playing well so far and must not lose sight of the big picture.

Napoli also kept pace by defeating Fiorentina 1-0 on a goal from Argentinian international Gonzalo Higuain. A very entertaining and balanced game, possession was split down the middle

insigne_gallery (1) and the result was in doubt till the final whistle. Although Napoli enjoyed more scoring chances both teams played extremely and the Tuscans deserved a better fate. The Partenopei are playing well of late and are back in a familiar spot, right behind Juventus and Roma. If they keep playing like that they will definitely put pressure on the leaders and might climb even more. The Viola for their part are playing well but are not getting matching results, they must find a way to play just as good as they do in the Europa league where they have dominated the opposition by a large margin.

LARGE_REACTIONAC Milan drew Sampadoria 2-2, El Shaarawy Stephan and Menez Jérémy scored for Milan, Eder and Okaka replied for Sampadoria. Another draw for the Rossoneri that will not help their cause they are falling off the leaders pace with every game, although they have some great talent something must be done about their defense, don’t know if they can. Sampadoria for their part are having a very good start and are sitting in 4th place right behind Napoli.

nter Milan also played to a 2-2 draw against Hellas Verona, Argentinian Mauro Icardi got both goals for Inter while Luca Toni and Nico Lopez replied for Veronese. The Neroblue played well and deserved a better result, they seem to have the same problems as their cousins from Milan not a very good defense. They must shore up their defense if they want any chance of reaching the top spots. Verona for their part are getting back to playing well and with some luck might fight for a Europa spot.

In other scores

Empoli stopped a streaking Lazio with a 2-1 win, a good solid win for Empoli who continue to show good stuff

Chievo Verona defeated newly promoted Cesena 2-1, an important win for Chievo that lifts them out of the last spot

Atalanta and Sassuolo played to a scoreless draw 0-0 a fair result that keeps them both from losing ground for salvation

Palermo and Udinese also played to a draw of 1-1, a result that will surely please both teams

Finally Genoa and Cagliari also played to a 1-1 draw, although Genoa dominated possession it was a fair result for both teams

(SERIE A REVIEW 2014-15 week 9) Juve lose for the first time and Roma capitalizes

images (7)

Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A review

Juventus hit a wall in Genoa losing 1-0 on an injury time goal scored by Luca Antonini. Italian international keeper and understudy to Buffon Mattia Perin was just fantastic, Juve threw everything at him except the kitchen sink. Juve played well and deserved better, although their game was not as fluid. Genoa is no pushover and are playing with a lot of confidence under manager Gian Piero Gasparini, Juve was made to work very hard. A fantastic win for the Genovese that is sure to bring back memories of glory past and give them wings. It’s not as easy for Juve this time around, the Scudetto race seems more wide open, I think Massimiliano Allegri is no Antonio Conte, let’s hope it’s enough to slow Juve down a little.

mattia-destro1_0-300x204Roma defeated Cesena 2-0 and in so doing is sitting even with Juve on top of the table, the goals came from Mattia Destro and Daniele De Rossi. A one sided game if I ever saw one. The Roma players made 982 passes and had the ball 78% of the time, I’m not sure but the 982 passes is close to record. Fantastic performance for the Romans that might just make them forget their humiliating loss against Bayer Munich in the Champions League. Miralem Pjanic was fantastic he mad over 125 passes and was a constant threat. I hope Roma can keep the pressure on Juve till the end. After a superb season in Serie B newly promoted Cesena are finding life difficult in the top flight I hope they can find a way to overcome it.

napoli atalanta_thumb

Napoli played to a 1-1 draw against Atalanta in Bergamo, the goals came from two Argentinians Germain Denis for Atalanta and Gonzalo Higuain for the Partenopei. The sea saw continues on the road for the Neapolitans, after controlling the match for 70% of the time and recording a club record of 792 passes they still mustered just 1 goal, unbelievable game. There is no question for me that Napoli will finish in the top 3 their talent is undeniable however if they don’t shore up defensively the objective will be difficult to reach. In my view the manager Rafael Benitez is not the man for the job, there is too much talent on the team they should be more ambitious. Atalanta played poorly in front of their own crowd which is a rare thing and they don’t look like they improved much in relation to the other second tier teams, after a good season last year better things we’re expected.

AC Milan drew 1-1 in Cagliari, the goals came from Italian U21 international Giacomo Bonaventura for Milan and Victor Ibarbo for Cagliari. The Rossoneri are not playing particularly well although their standing would suggest otherwise, in fact in my view they have a lot to do if they want to challenge Juve, Roma or Napoli and gain access to the Champions League. Their play has been a disappointment thus far for me often looks disjointed and open, a lot was expected with Filippo Inzaghi. In contrast Cagliari is having a good start although is not reflected in the standings just yet, I predict that if they keep playing this way it will

Fiorentina defeated Udinese 3-0 with goals coming from Babacar with 2 and Spanish Borja Valero getting the other one. A good game for the Viola who despite their slow start in Serie A have been unbeatable in Europe, manager Vincello Montella seems satisfied with his clubWith the expected return of Giuseppe Rossi I believe they can start dreaming of the Scudetto again. Udinese hit a wall after a string of good results let’s hope they can snap out of it and continue to play well although I must say they played a very good opponent.

In other results

Inter squeezed by a surprising Sampadoria 1-0 on an injury time goal by Argentinian Mauricio Icardi

Torino continues to climb with thanks to a hard fought victory of 1-0 over Parma who continue to struggle for points

Sassuolo got their second win in a row by disposing of newly promoted Empoli 3-1

Hellas Verona managed to draw Lazio of Rome 1-1 in a very uneventful match

Palermo got back to winning ways by defeating 1-0 the inconsistent and erratic Chievo di Verona

Here you have it folks another installment of the Serie A in review, where the game is played with style. With both Roma and Juventus losing some points in these last 2 rounds the race for the top is heating up…stay tuned
