Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A Review where the beautiful game is played con stile
Juventus hit a roadblock in Udine in a 0-0 draw against Udinese. Juve dominated the game in every aspect except the score line and Udinese have only their keeper to thank for this precious point. With Roma drawing also, the top of standing did not change at all, Juve still have a commanding lead and the way I see it will take a small miracle to dethrone Juventus. Italian Andrea Pirlo who is like a bottle of wine that just gets better with age had an outstanding game, controlled the tempo of the game with ease and made a total of 105 passes. Udinese for their part are playing better of late and have regained some form and although they did not play particularly well they did get a point which keeps them in the hunt for a European spot.
Roma hit a wall against Empoli in a 1-1 draw. Brazilian Maicon who is back in the lineup after an extend absence scored for the Romans while Italian Massimo Maccarone replied for Empoli. Surprisingly enough the score line reflected the game, possession was split and Empoli once again proved that they can pass the ball with accuracy. Roma who have 4 draws in their last 6 games must find a way to win on a regular basis or they can kiss the Scudetto goodbye. Something is not right in the eternal city, they are having trouble scoring like never before, hope fully they can turn it around in time to challenge Juventus. Empoli for their part are having a sea saw season although they are clear of the relegation spots, they must continue to play this way if they want to avoid relegation.
Napoli held their position in the standings with a tough 2-1 win over their nemesis, Chievo Verona. For some reason Chievo always gives the Partenopei lots of trouble and this game was no exception. Uraguain Miguel Britos and newcomer Manolo Gabbiadini scored for Napoli while Slovenian Bostjan Cesar replied for Chievo. Although Napoli dominated possession Chievo fought very hard and the result was in doubt till the last minute. Napoli must find a way to be more consistent if they want to catch at least Roma. Chievo for their part are struggling and again are in danger of retrocession, in spite of changing 11 players they are still looking for improvement.
AC Milan finally got a win, a 3-1 victory over lowly Parma. Italian Cristian Zaccardo and Frenchman Jeremy Menez with 2 got the goals for the Rossoneri while ex Milanista Italian Antonio Nocerino replied for Parma. The game was much closer than the result indicates and if not for the fantastic play of Menez the Rossoneri would have not got the precious 3 points. A tough season once again for the Rossoneri changing manager did not give the expected results, only time will tell if they made the right move. Parma once a feared team has fallen from grace, after a promising season last year the hopes we’re high however the opposite happened, they must find a way to rack up some points
Fiorentina who are inching closer to the top spots drew Genoa 1-1, a fantastic contest Genoa have definitely come of age they gave the Viola all they could handle and more. Argentinian Gonzalo Rodrigues got the goal for the Viola while Genoa’s goal was an own goal from Fiorentina’s keeper Romanian international Tatarusanu Ciprian. Fiorentina have not lost a game is 6 matches and are in a good position to advance in the standings. Genoa for their part must be happy with this result which confirms their improved play and they too can dream of Europe.
