Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A review

Juventus took another step towards the title by defeating a tough Sassuolo team 1-0 on a goal from super Frenchman Paul Pogba. Sassuolo are always tough to beat and the game was very close till the final whistle although Juves’ class came through at the end. In spite of not seemingly being as good as last season Juve notwithstanding a disaster in the last part of season Juve will win the Scudetto for a fourth consecutive year. Sassuolo for their part have had a great season so far, and it looks like they will stay up if they keep playing like that

Roma drew for the 11th time this season in a 0-0 draw against Chievo Verona. Roma again dominated possession although could not put one behind the net. Seems like a season to forget for the Romans with so many expectations this season it seems like the chocked under pressure. Only with a miracle can they catch Juve, as a matter of fact they might even lose their familiar 2nd spot if they don’t start winning. Chievo have improved from last season although not by much only time will tell if they stay away from relegation.

Napoli and Inter Milan played to a 2-2 draw that seemed to satisfy both coaches. Argentinian star Gonzalo Higuain and Marek Hamsik scored for the Partenopei while Argentinians Mauro Icardi and Rodriguo Palacio replied for Inter. A tale of two halves, Napoli dominating the first half while Inter came back strong in the second half. Napoli must keep focusing on every game if they want to challenge for the Champions League. Inter for their part have improved since Roberto Mancini took remains to be seen if they can climb closer to Europe.

Fiorentilaziofiorentinana met their nemesis Lazio of Rome in a 4-0 defeat. Argentinian Lucas Biglia who has been great for Lazio this season, Italian international Antonio Candreva and German Miroslav Klose with 2 scored for the Laziale. After a string of good results domestically and in Europe the Tuscans hit a wall in Rome however they are still a good team and I would not be surprised to see them in 3rd place before season’s end. Against all expectations Lazio has climbed to third spot just a couple of points shy of second place, a fantastic season for the Laziali no matter what happens from now till the end of the campaign

AC Milan continue their sea-saw season in 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona. Frenchman Jeremy Menez who has been a sensation for AC scored while the other goal was an own goal courtesy of Greek Tachsidis Panogiatis. Italian Luca Toni and Argentinian Nico Lopez replied for Verona. AC have had a tough season so far, a lot was expected with the arrival of Pippo Inzaghi however things seem to have gotten worse. Hellas for their part are also inconsistent and if they are not careful they might be relegated.

Serie A Review 2014-15 week 20: Juventus extend their lead Roma draws in Florence

images (7)

Hello everyone and welcome to the weekly Serie A Review, where the game is played with style

Juventus defeated Chievo Verona 2-0 on goals from super Frenchman Paul Pogba and Swiss Stephan Lichtsteiner. With almost 2 thirds of the season completed Juve took a commanding 7 point lead and a serious option on the Scudetto. The depth of La Grande Signora is striking even without their best players they continue to dominate, at this point with the Romans in a bit of a slide I cannot see what will prevent them from winning again. Chievo continue to be an enigma after adding 11 players to the team it did not give expected results, in my view they will continue to flirt with relegation and possibly be demoted

Roma and Fiorentina played to a 1-1 draw in a beautiful day in Florence. Serbian Adem Ljajić for Roma and German Mario Gomez who seems to have found his touch after a tough start in Florence. An evenly played game Fiorentina matched the Romans in every aspect, the Viola supremacy at midfield was surprising at times however Roma came back in the second half and the Tuscans we’re playing on their back heels for the rest of the game. Although a fair result in my view. Roma who are going through a tough stretch of the season (by their standards) with 3 draws in their last 5 games, Juve has taken full advantage and have stretched their lead. I have faith in the Romans they play a smart game and if Juve lets up they will be right there to pounce. The Viola for their part are in a good moment and are inching closer to the Champion League territory, it would not surprise one bit.

Napoli defeated a tough Genoa team 2-1. Argentinian Gonzalo Higuain got both goals for the Partenopei while Spanish Iago Falque replied for Genoa. A well balanced game although Napoli had the better chances, a big win for the Neapolitans that sees in 3rd place 6 points behind Roma. Higuain was spectacular and could have had more goals he is now chasing Carlos Tevez for the scoring lead. Genoa have a very good team and in spite of the loss they should be very proud of taming one of the best teams in Serie A, with a little luck they could have come out of this one with a least a point.

AC Milan was defeated 3-1 by Lazio in Rome. Italian Marco Parolo with 2 and German Miroslav Klose scored for the Laziali while Frenchman Jeremy Menez replied for the Rossoneri. A fantastic game marked by a brawl and an ejection to Frenchman Philip Mexes. AC started well however Lazio came back in a hurry and stronger, impressive display from the Celeste a game which confirms their excellent form this season. In contrast Ac are in a slide and they must find a way to regroup if they don’t want to fall too far behind the leaders and Europe

Inter - Torino

Inter Milan lost at home to Torino 1-0 on a 90th minute goal from Italian Emiliano Moretti. A tough game to say the least very combative where Inter dominated possession but the Torinese we’re able to show their qualities also, it bodes well for them, an important victory that will give them wings. After a string of positive result the hopes we’re growing for the Neroblue after this hard fought defeat they must not lose sight of their definite improvement

Sampadoria continue to stick around the top with a 1-1 draw against a much improved Palermo team

Hellas Verona got back on the winning track by holding Atalanta 1-0

Serie A Review 2014-15 week 19: Juventus win big-Roma lose ground

images (7)

Hello everyone and welcome to the Series A Review where the beautiful game is played with style

Juventus got an important win by clobbered Hellas Verona 4-0. Goals for La Grande Signora we’re scored by Carlos Tevez with 2, super Frenchman Paul Pogba and new comer Argentinian Roberto Peryera. A big win for the Bianconeri who dominated play in every category, they now have a 5 point cushion on top of the table.  Carlos Tevez continues his torrid pace I think we can safely say after an inconsistent start of his carrier he has found his game in Torino, Maradona’s prediction is coming to fruit it seems. Andrea Pirlo had a super game once again with over 80 passes, when he plays Juve is very hard to beat. Verona who must not get down after this defeat did not play bad however it’s very difficult to play against Juve when they are playing well. With almost half the season left anything can still happen 5 points can be lost in 2 games.

Roma stumbled in Palermo in a 1-1 draw. Italian Mattia Destro got the goal for the Romans while Argentinian Paulo Dybala got the goal for the Sicilians. A hard fought game Palermo are very impressive at home although Roma played their game to almost perfection once again Bosnian Miralem Pjanic controlled midfield and the ball distributing 86 passes in total. In spite of their losing ground to Juve the Romans can be proud of their performance it’s very promising for the rest of the campaign. Palermo for their part that proved once again that it is very difficult to get points in Sicily.

Napoli got a much needed 3 points by defeating Lazio in Rome 1-0 on a very opportunist goal from Argentinian Gonzalo Higuain. A strange game to say the least Napoli who are rarely dispossessed got a lesson in control of the ball from a very well organized Lazio team yet won the game. A big win for the Partenopei who climb back in 3rd place in a two way tie with Sampadoria. I must note the play of Argentinian Lucas Biglia who continues his impressive play for Lazio with over 80 passes completed he played a big part in the game. Lazio in spite of the loss can take a lot of positives from this game they outplayed one of the better passing team in Europe they must remained focused and look up.

AC Milan lost a bitter game at home 1-0 to Atalanta on a goal from Argentinian Germain Denis. A tough loss for the Rossoneri who completely dominated play and had lots of chances although once again their defensive play let them down. Dutch star Nigel De Jong had a very good game at midfield for the Rossoneri although AC continue to struggle a sew saw season at best. By their standard they are doing poor something is not the same at Milan they must find a new lead in my view someone who bleeds red and black. Maldini where are you? Atalanta got an unexpected 3 points and can take pride in this win that can maybe help them regain some of last season form.

Fiorentina got a big away win defeating Chievo Verona 2-1. Senegalese star Babacar M’Baye Gueye with a late winner (94th minute) and Argentinian Gonzalo Rodrigues got the goals for the Viola. Frenchman Sergio Pellesier replied for Chievo. A big win for Fiorentina who in my view have one of the best passing teams in Europe, 3 big points that sees them inch closer to 3rd place, Spanish Borja Valero had a big game for the Viola as did Babacar. Chievo deserved better they fought like mad men although the Tuscans we’re just too strong in the end.

In other scores

Sampadoria continue their impressive form with a 2-0 away win over a struggling Parma team.

Inter Milan lose ground drawing in Empoli 0-0

Genoa and Sassulo played a to a 3-3 goal fest

Torino got back to winning ways by defeating Cesena 3-2

Cagliari and Udinese also played to a 2-2 draw

Serie A Review 2014-15 week 17: Juventus drop points Roma closes the gap

images (7)

Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A Review where the game is played with style

No less than 4 draws we’re played in this round with Juventus and Inter Milan leading the way with a 1-1 nail biter. Mauro Icardi scored for Inter and fellow Argentinian Carlos Tevez replied for Juve although I must say in my view Mateo Kovacic was the man of the match he was rarely dispossessed, controlling the ball with ease and made a total of 75 passes. Surprisingly an evenly matched game the result was in doubt till the final whistle, a game that kept the fans on the edge of their seat throughout the game and in particular the second half. Inter will take away a lot of positives from this game that will definitely help them in the second half of the campaign, I believe Roberto Mancini is steering them the right way. Juve for their part are having trouble being consistent, funny thing though they are playing better in the Champions League. It will interesting to see if they can hold on for a 4th consecutive Scudetto, my money says no.

Roma got an important away win defeating Udinese 1-0 on a disputed goal. This win combined with Juve losing points at home means Roma has closed the gap that separates them to 1 point. The goal for the Romans was scored by newcomer Davide Astori who has been playing well since coming in, the goal was disputed by the hosts with no avail however I must admit after watching the replay over and over I’m still unsure. Nevertheless the Giallorossi deserved it they dominated the game with precision passing and control, Miralem Pjanic was great once again with over 80 passes, the team made no less than 782 passes a phenomenal achievement in my view. Bodes well for the upcoming weeks for the Romans they might even be on top this time next week. Udinese for their part did not play particularly bad but not good enough to win or draw in my view, they must regroup and focus on their next game with hopefully with a few lessons learned

Napoli got back to winning ways with a 4-1 drubbing of newly promoted Cesena. Gonzalo Higuain with 2, Jose Callejon and an own goal by Daniele Capelli completed the score sheet for the Partenopei while Franco Brienza replied for Cesena. Hard to fault the hosts in this game the Neapolitans we’re just fantastic, too strong on this day, precision passing and ball control in midfield made this game fun to watch especially for the Partenopei fans. Callejon and Higuain continue to score and it’s a good thing that they do because Napoli looks soft defensively, they must find a way to keep out bad goals. Not much to say for Cesena except that they must forget this game and refocus if they don’t want to be back in Serie B.

AC Milan took a step back with a 2-1 home defeat to an emerging Sassuolo team. Super Simone Zaza and Nicola Sansone scored for Sassuolo while Andrea Poli provided the feeble reply for AC. As much as they we’re impressive against Napoli the Rossoneri we’re just as much unimpressive in this game, their defense is very ordinary and I’m still not convinced they have improved from last season although I like their front line. Another great win for the Sassuolo who keep confusing the experts, with one of the lowest budgets in Europe they are able to be very competitive, a testament to the excellent work of their coaching staff and scouts

Lazio defeated Sampadoria di Genoa 3-0 in 3rd place matchup. Lazio’s goals came from ex Italian U21 international Andrea Parolo, Felipe Anderson and Filip Djordjevic. An important win for the Laziali which gives them a share of 3rd place with Napoli and a clear opportunity for the Champions League spot. Sampadoria lost a good opportunity to show what they got although they play well their offense leaves to be desired. Clearly if they can get some help on the front line they can be very dangerous even though we did not see much from them in this game

Fiorentina suffered a setback going down 1-0 in Parma, tough loss for the Viola after dominating the whole game

Torino and Chievo Verona settled for a 0-0 standoff

Hellas Verona and Empoli also settled for a 0-0 draw

Palermo spanked a freefalling Cagliari team 5-0

Finally Atalanta and Genoa played to an entertaining 2-2 affair

Serie A Review 2014-15 week 16, Juventus retake top spot while Roma vs AC Milan ends up in a draw

images (7)

Hello everyone and welcome to Serie A Review, where the beautiful game is played with style

Juventus got back to winning ways by defeating Cagliari 3-1, after a mini slump by their standards Juve got an important win. The goals for La Grande Signora we’re scored by Carlos Tevez, Arturo Vidal and Fernando Llorente while Luca Rossettini replied for the Sardinians. With the Romans nipping at their heels the Bianconeri had no margin for error the pressure was high however being  cool under pressure is one of the things that make Juve unique and they showed it once again. The Juve players we’re very dominant, the only shot at the net for Cagliari went in. The hope is that the wins continue for the Bianconeri and with Roma just 1 point behind it’s no time to falter. Not much to say for Cagliari they we’re beaten by a superior talented team however they must continue to believe, they know they can play better.

Roma and AC Milan played to a 0-0 stale mate, a win would have permitted the Romans to surpass Juve for top spot, the soccer gods had other plans for the Romans it seems. A result that will at least keep them within striking distance of the top spot. The Giallorossi dominated possession as expected although the AC players did not give an inch and fought for every ball, in my view a good performance from both clubs in spite of the score line. Roma must continue to believe had keep the pressure on if they want any hope of finishing first. AC for their part must be proud of the fact that they have had 2 consecutive games without giving up a goal, their defense seems to be slowly improving and the ambitions are growing in Milan.

Napoli regained third spot with an emphatic 2-0 win against Parma. Duvan Zapata who keeps scoring when called upon and Belgian sensation Dries Mertens got the goals for the Partenopei who needed this win in front of their fans to boost moral and confidence. A dominant performance from the Napulitane that will keep them challenging for a Champions League. The Parmiggiani are a shadow of themselves they are in serious trouble and Roberto Donadoni is in danger of losing his job.

Fiorentina hit a wall against Empoli in Florence no less in a 1-1 draw. A surprising result due in part to the ability of the Empoli players to keep the ball away for the Viola. A masterful display of poise and composure from both teams. Fiorentina will take this point because they know Empoli played well and the point keeps them in contention for Champion League play. Empoli can be proud of their display against one of the better teams in Europe. They will surprise a lot of teams if they keep playing like that.

Inter and Lazio squared off in a 2-2 draw, a goal fest of sorts that satisfies both teams although Inter needed a win to stay close to the group of hopefuls. The goals came from Felipe Anderson with 2 for Lazio  and Argentinian Rodriguo Palacio and Mateo Kovaciic replied for Inter. Both teams gave it all they had a sea saw battle throughout the match with Mateo Kovacic being the man of the match in my eyes
