(Serie A Review 2014-15 week 8) Juventus and Napoli gain ground while Ac Milan and Roma stumble

Hello everyone welcome to the weekly Serie A review

Juventus defeated Palermo 2-0 in a one sided match, Juve controlled the match and with a little luck could have had more goals, after theirLlorente-1-300x203 1-0 defeat in the Champions League it was important that Juve got a good result and they did. The goals for the Bianconeri were scored by Spanish international Fernando Llorente and Chilean international Arturo Vidal. Juve seem unbeatable in Serie A and newly promoted Palermo found out the hard way. The Sicilians must find a way to play better or they will be back down as fast as they came up, after a fantastic season in Serie B they are having trouble adjusting for sure.

Roma we’re held to a 0-0 draw in Genoa by Sampadoria. I don’t remember the last time Roma got shut out, although they controlled most romateampic
of the play they could not find the mark. In part because Sampa is playing very well right now and are unbeaten at home, Mihavolic’s men are right behind the Romans in the standings and I’m sure could not be happier. After the disastrous defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League it will be interesting to see if Roma can come back and play premier soccer again, one thing that game showed is that Roma have ways to go before they can compete against the best in Europe.

Napoli defeated Hellas Verona 6-2, Gonzalo Higuaín with 3, Marek Hamsik with 2 andJose Callejon with 1 got the goals for the Partenopei while Icelandic international Hallfredsson and Nico Lopez replied for Verona. Napoli are beautiful to watch and have lots of great talent when they are playing together they are amazing, they controlled the play and deserved the lopsided win however in my view they are vulnerable on defense and are inconsistent to say the least, they must find a way to get stronger and maybe only then will they challenge for the top spots. After a good season last year Verona are only a shadow of themselves this year, after selling key players I guess it was to be expected.

AC Milan and Fiorentina played to a 1-1 draw on a beautiful night at San Siro. The match up was a good one with both teams attacking and interit led to many great plays. Dutch international Nigel De Jong scored for the Rossoneri while Croatian Josep Llicic replied for the Viola. Milan lost an opportunity to gain some ground on Sampa and Roma, playing at home a win was expected and although have more points than last year at this time their play has not convinced. Fiorentina who are having a hard time finding their rhythm in Serie A are nevertheless playing extremely well in the Europa League with 3 straight wins, a mystery of sorts I guess

Hello everyone welcome to the Serie A review

Juventusdefeated Roma 3-2 at home in a thriller match, Carlos Tevez got another 2 goals for the bianconeri although Leonardo Bonucci got the winner, Roma got goals from the never aging Francesco Totti and newcomer Juan Iturbe. Although it’s early season the 2 giants of Italian soccer were already fighting for first place, the 1st installment goes to Juve. Roma dominated possession throughout the match with numerous opportunities and deserved a better fate. However Juve played well and after losing their midweek game in the Champions League they looked determined to win. The Giallorossi must continue to play their game in spite of this loss, I have no doubt they will chase Juve all the way. This game showed that Juve and Roma are in a class of their own in Serie A.

AC Milan defeated Chievo Verona 2-0, on goals from Japanese sensation Honda Keisuke and Sulley Muntari. A must win for the Rossoneri, even though it’s only the 6th game they cannot afford to lose too much ground to the leaders if they want any hope to make the Champions League or the Europa League. Honda is on fire and is playing with confidence, with Jeremy Menez playing well too Milan is in good shape to score goals. However their overall play seems disjointed at times it remains to be seen if they can put out good results consistently. Chievo is in similar shape fighting for consistency in my view they will have to fight for salvation in every game.

InsigneNapoli defeated Torino 2-1 in a lively game of cat and mouse. Jose Callejon and Lorenzo Insigne got the goals for the Partenopei while ex Napoletano Fabio Quagliarella got the lone goal for the Granada. Napoli is looking much better getting their 2nd consecutive win and more importantly playing their style with poise and composure. Last year they we’re the only team to beat Juve convincingly and a lot is expected from them, let’s just hope Benites can keep them playing well. Torino is surpassing expectations after losing their 1 and 2 goal scorers they are getting good results.

interFiorentina defeated Inter Milan 3-0 in stunning match, Colombian sensation Juan Cuadrato, Nenad Tomovic and new comer Babacar got the goals for the winners. In a fine display of ball control and determination the Viola showed everyone what they can do. When they get Giuseppe Rossi back from injuries I believe they will be a force to reckon with. Inter in contrast seems disjointed and clueless at times, their defense is very suspect, a change of manager seems imminent.

Hello everyone and welcome the Serie A review

Juventus defeated Atalanta 3-0 on goals from Carlos Tevez with 2 and Alvaro Morata with his first goal in a Juve uniform. Juve seem irresistible and with Tevez playing the way he is it will difficult to hold them. Also the defensive pair of Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini seem unbeatable. Although Atalanta played better this week the result was not forgiving, I think it will take a little miracle for them to get back to winning ways.

Roma defeated Hellas Verona 2-0 with Alessandro Florenzi and Mattia Destro getting a goal each.  Good game although one sided most of the match. I’m running out of words to describe the game the Romans play, it’s just beautiful and after 5 weeks Roma has not let Juve gain a point on them it will be a fight till the end I believe. Although Roma and Juve have different styles they are both based on possession and control it’s very difficult to pick between the two. It will interesting to see who will come out on top. Hellas Verona are not as effective as last season it will interesting to see if they can avoid relegation.

AC Milan and Cesena played to a 1-1 draw, the goals came from Adil Rami for Milan and Davide Succi for Cesena. AC Milan have to regroup they are not having the type of start they expected, Frenchman Jeremy Menez and Japanese Honda Keisuke are the bright spots for the Rossoneri. I don’t think they have what it takes to compete with the leaders, they are a far cry from the glory days and no one seems to know the answers. Cesena had a good game and could have won it with a little luck, they must take positives from this game and build on it

udinese2014-09-21_17-07-06Napoli defeated Sassuolo 1-0 on a goal from who else Jose Maria Callejon. A good defensive game for the Partenopei although the game was in doubt till the final whistle. Sassuolo put up a good fight and we did not see the usual dominance from Napoli. Britos had an instant impact on defense for Napoli he played extremely well. Napoli must get a winning streak going to make up lost ground, they must not let Roma and Juve get to far ahead or they can kiss any hope of winning the title good bye. Sassuolo must continue to fight in spite of this result if they want to avoid Serie B.

Inter Milan was defeated 4-1 by Cagliari in an ugly display of defense. Albin Ekdal got 3 goals for the winners with Cagliari born Marco Sau getting the other one, the feeble reply from Inter came from Pablo Osvaldo who is doing rather well for Inter since coming in from Juve. Hard to explain Inter’s play it’s inconsistent to say the least, Walter Mazzarri will be getting gray pretty soon if they keep playing like that.

In other games

Udinese defeated Parma in a goal fest 4-2 – Sampadoria defeated Genoa 1-0 in a city derby – Fiorentina and Torino played to a 1-1 stalemate – Chievo Verona and Empoli drew 1-1 and Lazio slammed Palermo 4-0

Juventus defeated newly promoted Cesena 3-0 in a one sided match. Chilean international Arturo Vidal got 2 goals for the Bianconeri with Lichtsteiner getting the other one. Juve was very dominant in every aspect of the game in fact at times it seemed like there was just 1 team on the field. Even without Pirlo, Pogba and Tevez in the lineup they displayed a dominance rarely seen. Does not bode well for the rest of Serie A, it will be very difficult to dethrone Juve in my view. Cesena are fighting for salvation in every game and much more was expected, they will have to play with more conviction if they want to avoid relegation.

Roma defeated Parma 2-1 to stay level with Juve, they defeated a very good but unlucky Parma team. The goals for the Giallorossi we’re scored by Adem Ljajic and the sensational Miralem Pjanic, the lone goal for the Parmiggiani was scored by Paolo De Ceglie. The match was a tricky one for Romans, Parma have very dangerous players and although the Romani dominated play the game was in doubt till the final whistle, Antonio Cassano came close to an equalizer a couple of times. Roma cannot let up if they want a real chance at the title it looks like Juve won’t give it up easily. Parma are playing well without getting good results, you have to think that at one point they will start getting good results if they keep playing the way they are

AC Milan settled for a 2-2 draw against Empoli. The goals came from Fernando Torres and Honda Keisuke for Milan, Manuel Pucciarelli and Lorenzo Tonelli replied for Empoli.  It’s clear in my view that the Rossoneri have to do a lot better if they want to reach the Champions League. Pippo Inzaghi must be having nightmares, they have a poor defense and don’t look like a solid team. Fernando Torres should help but will it be enough? The newly promoted Empoli are holding their own and don’t be surprised if they remain in Serie A after this season. Empoli FC is well known for having one of the best Academies in the World.

Napoli and Palermo played to a crazy 3-3 draw. Napoli’s’ goals came from Duvan Zapata, Jose Maria Callejon and newbie defenseman Koulibaly Kalidou. The reply from the Sicilians came from Andrea Belotti with 2 and Franco Vazquez on a penalty. The Partenopei are not playing like they could their defense seems shaky at best, in my view they need to solidify their central defense if they want any hope to compete with Roma and Juve. Palermo are not a bad team and they should get better results, they too must shore up their defense if they want to avoid relegation

Inter Milan defeated Atalanta 2-0 on goals from newly arrived Daniel Pablo Osvaldo and Brazilian Hernanes. Good game for the Neroblue although Atalanta did not impress, I’m not convinced that Inter has improved that much remains to be seen if they can stay with the leaders. Atalanta is a shadow of themselves something must be done or it will be a long season indeed for Stefano Colantuolo.

In other games

Lazio lost 1-0 to a surprising UdineseHellas Verona and Genoa played to a 2-2 draw – Fiorentina and Sassuolo played to a 0-0 stalemate – Torino defeated Cagliari 2-2 and surprising Sampadoria defeated Chievo Verona 2-1.
