(Serie A review week 34)  Juventus take a strangle hold on the Scudetto, Roma are relentless and AC Milan keep the dream of Europe alive

Hello everyone welcome once again to the Serie A review, thank you for tuning in

Juventus took a giant step towards clinching the title with a 1-0 victory over Bologna, the only goal of the game was scored in the 64th minute, by (the much sought after and likely to move next year) French international Paul Pogba, on a splendid demonstration composure and power. Juves’ dominance and quality was evident trough out the game however Bologna who are staring relegation in the face gave a good account of themselves and we’re in the game till the final whistle. I would think that after this game it’s safe to say that  Juve can start chilling the champagne

Roma kept pace with the champions by defeating Fiorentina 1-0 in Tuscany, on a goal from Belgian international Radia Nainggolan in the 26th minute on a beautiful play signed Pjanic. In another beautiful display of a pragmatic approach to the game Roma took control of the ball and rarely gave it up, the one negative for them in the game was the clear chances that we’re missed,  don’t know if it’s just me but sometimes it’s difficult to watch professionals miss easy goals. In spite of probably missing out on the Scudetto with this win the Romani set a new team record for points during 1 season, all and all they can be proud of the way they play the game. The Viola in contrast are inconsistent to say the least, with Inter Milan’s recent form nipping at their heels, they might lose their standing for a Europa spot if they don’t finish strong

Jose-Callejon-2-600x400

Napoli had to settle for a draw of 1-1 against Udinese in Udine. The goals we’re scored by the incomparable Jose Maria Callejon for the Partenopei in the 38th minute and Bruno replied for Udinese in the 54th minute. The game was meaningless for both teams and it showed lots of mistakes from both sides and a draw is a just result. Having been out of contention from the Scudetto race and the European Cups, Napoli can still claim the Italian Cup if they defeat Fiorentina in the final, they must not fall into complacency and must finish strong.

Amidst rumors of dissention and confusion Clarence Seedorf and AC Milan got their 4 straight victory by defeating Livorno 3-0 on goals from Super Mario Balotelli in the 43rd minute, Adel Taarabt in the 51st minute and ex Italian international Giampaolo PazziniBalotelli was super with a goal and 2 super assist for the other goals. The Rossoneri still have an outside chance of reaching the Europa League and judging from their recent form it’s an obtainable goal. I hope Seedorf will keep his job he seems to be the man of the moment, although judging from the rumors it seems like some people want to see Pippo Inzaghi named coach for next year. With Kaka reportedly playing in the MLS next season for Orlando, the speculation for a new direction for the team is rampant, it will be interesting to see how the players handle the distraction, so far so good.

In other scores

Inter Milan defeated Parma 2-0 in a must win for the Neroblue if they want to catch Fiorentina, Hellas Verona edged out Atalanta 2-1, Lazio and Torino played to a 3-3 draw, Cagliari defeated Genoa 2-1, Sassulo took a giant step towards salvation by edging Chievo Verona 1-0 and Catania outlasted Sampadoria 2-1

In the race for the bottom Catania (despite their win), Livorno and Bologna are down looking up

Here you have it another exciting week in Serie A, the finish is close however the excitement gets stronger.. stay tuned

MLS review week 6 (canadian teams) Toronto slips, Vancouver draws and Montreal continues to struggle

Hello everyone welcome to the MLS review of the Canadian teams week 6, hope you find it enjoyable and informative

FC Toronto lost a chance to confirm their new status as a very competitive team by going down 2-1 against FC Dallas in Dallas. Although Dallas controlled the ball for most of the game Toronto had some great chances on counter attack the winner did not come till the 88th minute courtesy of Miguel Perez Ortega, a hard loss to swallow for TFC after a hard-fought match. The other goal for Dallas was scored by Matt Hedges in the 37th minute while Canadian international  Issey Nakajima opened the scoring with his second goal in as many games for TFC in the 21st minute.  Dallas have a very good team as their position in the standings demonstrates. This game showed that Toronto still have ways to go before they can be considered as serious contenders. Micheal Bradley for one in spite of all his talent is not playing like the Bradley I know, to be effective he has to control the pace of the game not score goals, although goals are welcome it should not be his job to score goals.

Vancouver played to a 2-2 draw against LA Galaxy in an exciting game, the goals for Vancouver we’re scored by Darren Mattocks in the 67th minute and Kekuta Manneh tied the score in the 86th minute, the reply for LA came from  Stefan Ishizaki in the 38th minute and Robbie Keane in the 77th minute. The Whitecaps have a well-balanced team  with lots of character players that seem to score goals in a timely fashion and all hope for a great Canadian team rests with them at the moment. LA has a very good team and still seem to have that winning attitude since the Beckham days, they will  definitely compete for the top spot as usual.

Montreal is in a free fall losing 4-0 to  Sporting Kansas City, the goals for the winners we’re scored by Callum Mallace in the 31st minute, Aurelien Collin in the 71st minute and Dom Dwyer got 2 late goals in the 74th and 86th minute.  Montreal  have not tasted victory since the start of the season and this game was close in the first half however Montreal completely fell apart in the last quarter of the game. I don’t know what it will take for the Impact to get back to winning ways however I’m almost sure that heads will roll if they don’t taste victory soon

Here you have it another exciting week in the MLS …..stay tuned

Serie A review week 33

Juventus closer to the title with Roma in pursuit while AC Milan wins again

juve2014

Juventus took a step closer to the title by defeating Udinese 2-0 on goals from ex U21 Italian international Sebastian Giovinco in the 16th minute and Fernando Llorente in the 26th minute. Giovinco is showing that when he is on his game he can be just as effective as Carlos Teves. Juve took control of the match early on and never let go, another workman like performance by the Bianconeri, who are very close to clinching their 4th consecutive Scudetto. Udinese is having a season to forget they are hovering just above the relegation zone and it doesn’t look like they will go higher

Roma continues their irresistible march to the top with their 7th win in a row of 3-1 against Atalanta Di Bergamo. The goals came from Rodrigo Taddei opened the scoring in the 13th minute, Adem Ljajic in the 44th minute and Gervinho in the 63rd minute rounded the score for the Giallorossi. The reply from the Bergamasci came from Giulio Migliaccio in the 77th minute. Atalanta have lost 2 in a row after 7 consecutive wins, they must regroup if they want a last shot at the Europa League. All and all an easy victory for the Romans, they controlled the ball for most of the game which nullified any comeback dreams Atalanta might have had. The Romans are on the march..look out

SSC Napoli defeated Lazio 4-2 in another jam packed San Paolo stadium in NaplesGonnzalo Iguain got a hatrick for the Partenopei, his goals came in the 50th, 67th and 90th minute, Dries Mertens got the other goal for Napoli. Lazio’s goals came from Sena Lulic in the 21st minute and Obenyi Onazi in the 82nd minute. Napoli played a very good game once again their fluidity is something to watch however Lazio did not give up and in spite of being down one man from a red card shown to Lorik Cana in the 48th minute they managed to score a goal a man short. All in all a nice win for Napoli which confirms their good form of late, with this win I believe they cemented 3rd place and must be careful not to fall into complaisance for the remainder of the season if they want to reach the team record for most points in one season

montolivo_milan-300x186

AC Milan defeated Catania 1-0 at Milan, the lone goal was scored by Riccardo Montolivio in the 23rd minute on a beautiful play by Mario Balotelli. It was Milan’s 3rd straight win, they are not giving up their fight for a Europa League spot it will be interesting to see if they can pull it off after a disastrous start of the season. Catania have lost their 5th in a row and they are staring Serie B in the face.

Alberto-Aquilani-Fiorentina-300x186

Fiorentina routed Hellas Verona 5-2 in Verona, the goals for the Viola came from Alberto Aquilani with 2 in the 44th and 86th minute, the Colombian International Juan Quadrato in the31st minute, Borje Valero in the 63rd minute and Alessandro Matri in the 83rd minute. The reply from the Veronesi came from Jacopo Sala in the 14th minute and Luca Toni in the 73rd minute on a penalty. A wild game to say the least, with a little luck Fiorentina would have had more goals. Verona seemed disinterested in the match. At the end an important must win for the Viola if they want to keep their hold on their Europa League spot

In other results:

Inter Milan finally got a win, shutting down Sampadoria in Genoa 4-0 – Bologna held Parma to a 1-1 draw – Torino edged out Genoa 2-1 – Livorno lost at home 4-2 to Chievo Verona and finally Cagliari and Sassuolo played to a 1-1

In the race for the bottom SassuoloBologna and Chievo gained some ground leaving Catania and Livorno in deep trouble.

Here you have it another exciting week in Serie A…with a few weeks left the finish line is in the horizon..Should be an exciting finish

(serie a week 32) juve win Roma shines and Napoli stumble

images (10) images (9) image_gallery (1) mattia-destro1_0-300x204

Hello everyone and welcome to another exciting week in Serie A

In Torino  Juventus got their 27th victory of the season by defeating Livorno 2-0 on goals from Fernando Llorente in the 32nd and 35th minute. An easy win for the Bianconeri after a tough loss in Napoli. The win brings Juves’ lead on top of the standings to 8 points. Livorno in contrast fell to last place in the standings and are inching closer to demotion, Livorno did not play particularly bad and they have some good players in particular Innocent Emegharawho was giving Juves’ defense fits all game, however they lack creativity moving forward

Roma moved closer to the title and Juventus with 2 wins during the week, a win of 4-2 over Parma in a midweek makeup game on goals from Gervinho in the 12th minute, Francesco Totti in the 16th minute, Miralem Pjanic in the 49thminute and Rodriguo Taddei in the 82nd minute. The reply from the Parmiggiani came from Afriyle Acquah in the 15thminute and Jonathan Biabiany in the 90th minute.      In the regular scheduled game Roma defeatedCagliari 3-1 in Sardegna on 3 goals from Mattia Destro, the reply for the hosts came from Mauricio Ricardo Pinilla in the 89th minute on a penalty shot. Roma made up some ground on Juventus and are on a high right now, looks promising for a great finish to the campaign

Napoli lost a chance to keep pace with Roma by going down 1-0 to Parma, the goal for hosts was scored by the Italian U21 international Marco Parolo in the 55th minute. After an emotional win against Juventus last week the Patenopei got brought down to earth by a resilient Parma team. Although Napoli dominated the play they seemed unwilling to shoot and it cost them at the end, Parma who got their first win in 4 games did not play much better a draw would have been more deserving for both sides.

In Genoa AC Milan got their second win in a row and a third game without a loss by edging Genoa 2-1. The goals for the Rossoneri came from the Moroccan international Adel Taarabt in the 20th minute and the Japanese internationalHonda Keisuke in the 56th minute, the reply for the hosts came from the ex Juventino Marco Motta. Genoa dominated the game and deserved a least a draw the Greek international Giannis Fetfatzidis played a fantastic game as did Motta however the man of the match in my view was AC Milans’ keeper Cristian Abbiate he made some fantastic saves to preserve the win, he is one of the most underrated keepers in the world and in my book only Buffon is better. An important 3 points for the Rossoneri towards their quest for Europe.

Fiorentina won 2-1 at home against Udinese, a good game for the Viola, the result will help them cement 4th place and a spot in the Europa league.

Inter Milan drew 2-2 with Bologna at home, it was their 3rd straight draw and now have gone 4 games without a win, they are stagnant right now they must improve to have any chance to play in the Europa League.

In other results:

Lazio stayed in the hunt for a spot in Europe by defeating Sampadoria 2-0 in Rome. Atalanta lost their 1st game in 8 outings to Sassuolo 2-0 in Bergamo, important win for Sassuolo who are fighting for their life in Serie A.                                                                        Torino kept their dreams alive for Europe by defeating Catania 2-1 in Sicily, and finally in the Verona derby Hellas Veronadefeated Chievo Verona 1-0 The relegation battle got even tighter this week 5 teams are in trouble , Sassuolo, Catania, Livorno, Bologna and Chievo Verona, no doubt in my mind that it will go down to the last game of the season.

Here you have it another week in Serie A, stay tuned for more interesting news from the most exciting league in the world
